A powerful, comprehensive auction, focusing on African-American history, culture, and the Civil Rights movement.
A Cinema Apart is a collection amassed by Larry Richards – a respected librarian and historian– over a number of many years. A man passionate about African-American culture and history, Mr. Richards tragically and suddenly died quite young, leaving behind his collection of hundreds of motion picture posters featuring African-American stars and addressing African-American issues, as well as rare broadsides, window cards, and ephemera. These items feature names including Paul Robeson, Sammy Davis Jr., Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Dandridge, and Sidney Poitier. This incredible group of objects has been deemed so culturally important that a section of it is now in the collection of the Smithsonian. Also to be included in this auction is a remarkable collection of rare documents, manuscripts, and other treasured items tracing African-American history, the Civil Rights movement, and African American music. More to come about this historically and culturally compelling auction.
