JERRY GARCIA'S GUITARS: TIGER AND WOLF
The Wolf and The Tiger, were two guitars made especially for Jerry Garcia by custom luthier Doug Irwin. The Wolf, made in 1972-73 of amaranth wood for, was one of Garcia’s favorite guitars until the end of his life, with the distinctive wolf face below the string base. The Tiger, with the image of a white tiger also below the string base, is made of curly western maple wood and Gaboon ebony, and is the quintessential Jerry Garcia guitar. Both can be seen in many performance photographs of Garcia over the years, and both are truly unique works of art, both in their own right and in the music they were used to create.
