"Cats - Pink Sam" signed Andy Warhol

Watercolor and ink on paper. Possibly a unique study for the cover image of “25 Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy”, by Andy Warhol.

”25 Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy” was a privately printed, limited edition book by Warhol, printed in 1954, during the period that Warhol was still working as a commercial illustrator. Warhol loved cats, and was known to have kept many in the Manhattan apartment he shared with his mother, Julia Warhola. Although the title of the book refers to a total of 26 cats, the book actually consisted of 17 lithographs. The calligraphy for the book was done by Julia Warhola, who likely also was responsible for the writing and signature on this watercolor. c. early 1950’s. Faint pencil markings near left and lower edges, and creases in paper. Framed, image (sight):9 ¼” x 6 3/8”. With Certificate from Galleria Edera Arte Moderna, Napoli. Due to the lateness of this consignment, time did not permit submission of this work to Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board, Inc. Accordingly, bidders are advise that this work has not been authenticated.
