Lot 63A

Jim Morrison-Worn Sunglasses from Optique Originals

Jim Morrison-worn aviator style sunglasses, handcrafted with a gold-colored wire frame, plastic bridge and green glass lenses. One of fifteen similar but slightly different pairs originally made for Morrison by Dennis Roberts of Optique Originals, famed Hollywood eyeglasses maker. The glasses are in an original suede case.

This pair of Morrison’s sunglasses was purchased in 2007 from Dennis Roberts, Optician to Jim Morrison, Robbie Krieger, Elvis Presley and Steve McQueen. Dennis made fifteen pairs of this style of sunglasses for Jim. Each of the fifteen glasses is unique as they were handcrafted and the plastic bridge is slightly different on each pair. This particular pair Jim had returned to Dennis for repairs and was in his possession at the time of Jim’s death. Documentation from Dennis Roberts is attached.
Jim mostly wore these casually and not on stage, and he did wear them for many photo shoots. The large dark lenses helped give Jim the distinctive look he enjoyed. Jim was frequently seen photographed in these fifteen pair of sunglasses.

Jim Morrison is arguably the greatest lead singer in Rock and Roll History. Jim turned his poetry into song lyrics and through his “shamanic” performances allowed audiences to Break On Through to the Other Side of spirituality and mysticism.

Estimate: $3,500 - $5,000
