Mickey Mantle Auction Catalogue, #30, with actual Mickey Mantle Signature
The Guernsey’s Mickey Mantle Auction was held on December 8, 2003 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. A deluxe catalogue was created at a very small edition of only 95 numbered copies, plus 7 artist proof copies and three copies reserved for The Mantle Family. These were created when it was discovered that The Mantles had retained handsome images of Mickey that he signed in the early 1990’s. Set into the cover of each is a signed, four-color image of Mickey Mantle furnished by the Mantle family. The edition size was determined by the number of signed pieces the Mantle family had in their archive. Each deluxe catalogue contains the identical core of the regular auction catalogue: 200 pages of full color photographs and complete descriptions of all the items offered, plus anecdotes and personal recollections from Mickey’s family, friends, and teammates such as Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and Ralph Houk, and a 15 page Mantle career-centered article entitled “Year by Year” written by David Nuttall. In addition, each features a special hardcover binding in a dark blue linen textured material with a matching presentation slipcase, and a certificate signed by David and Danny Mantle, Mickey’s surviving sons.
