Metal rocket replica coin bank that was given to President Kennedy by a member of staff. There was tremendous interest in the various rocket launches, especially in the White House. A member of staff was lucky enough to attend one of the launchings while in Cocoa Beach, Florida and purchased this replica as a souvenir. The rocket coin bank was then given to President Kennedy upon the staff member's return and Kennedy kept it on his desk for a while.
The metal rocket has a gold-tone finish with some details in red and a spring-loaded coin slot on the side. Part of a sticker labeled "Cocoa Beach" remains visible towards the nose of the rocket. Towards the base, the replica is marked "ASTRO MFG. U.S.A. E.DETROIT" along with patent numbers. The gold finish is peeling away in parts and one red rubber "foot" is missing. 11 1/2 tall
