Lot 569 John F. Kennedy White House Rocking Chair with Photograph

John F. Kennedy suffered from chronic back pain throughout most of his life. Despite having very dangerous back surgery, the pain was never fully relieved, but rocking chairs proved to be the most comfortable seating for Kennedy. He commissioned approximately twelve chairs which were divided among his various residences. Several were placed in the White House including this one, which was placed in Evelyn Lincoln's office where the President, as well as many dignitaries that visited, used the chair. As evidenced in photographs, it was oftn re-located to the Oval Office for the President's use.
