Sterling Silver calendar paperweight manufactured by Tiffany & Co. representing the month of October 1962. These calendars were designed, ordered, and distributed by President John F. Kennedy as mementos for the key people that worked tirelessly with him during the stress-filled, extremely intense 13-day Cuban Missile Crisis. For each of the days during which uncertainty ran rampant, Kennedy made it a point of emphasizing all the effort and dedication that went into the preservation of peace by having these dates engraved in bolder type. The President's initials are also engraved along the top of the calendar, as are those of the recipient, in this case Evelyn Lincoln. Other than Mrs. Kennedy, Evelyn Lincoln, Kennedy's longtime personal secretary, was the only woman to receive one of the 30 commissioned mementos. The sterling silver calendar is affixed to a brown, walnut block with a brown felt base. Kept by Mrs. Lincoln in a burgundy, snap-in, gold-trimmed cardboard box. Good condition. 9 x 11
