Lot 1226 Evelyn Lincoln's Purse and Contents That She Carried in the Dallas Motorcade

Evelyn Lincoln's purse with contents that she carried in the Dallas motorcade when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated including a letter stained with Kennedy's blood. The black leather purse has a silver-tone metal closure and a short leather strap. The interior is lined in red fabric and has a built-in small red change purse suspended from the top with two red fabric strips. Good condition, slight metal tarnish. 10 1/2 x 7 x 1 1/2. The contents of the purse are as follows:

  1. Small white envelope addressed to Pierre Salinger at the Rice Hotel from Marvin Corman in Houston and marked "Personal." The verso contains a blood stain under Mrs. Lincoln's typed note, "My beloved President's blood, Nov.22." The blood rubbed off on the envelope when Mrs. Kennedy took off her white gloves, stained with blood, and gave them to Mrs. Lincoln to hold while at the Parkland Hospital, who in turn placed them in her purse. The gloves were later given to the FBI. Good condition, envelope torn open along right side. 3 3/4 x 6 1/2
  2. Two small white cards. One is typed with instructions telling Mrs. Lincoln where she will ride during the Texas trip. The other has "Credit Card 150-7800-532" written in pencil in Lincoln's hand. Good condition, paper starting to yellow. 3 x 5
  3. Blue photo identification card of Lincoln used during President's trip to Costa Rica. In Spanish and numbered "0271." Good condition. 2 3/4 x 3 3/4
  4. White 1963 season pass for American League baseball games made out to Evelyn Lincoln. Good condition. 2 3/4 x 4 1/4
  5. Plastic rain hat folded into white "Worcester Federal Savings and Loan Association" pouch with Pan-Am "Wash Up!" towlette unopened. Good condition. Pouch 3 3/4 x 2, Towlette 3 x 2 1/4
  6. Blue envelope addressed to Pierre Salinger at the Rice Hotel also marked "Personal" containing short note on The National Bank of Commerce of Houston letterhead from Harold LeBourgeois. Good condition, envelope cut open on right side and slightly creased. Envelope 4 1/4 x 9 1/2, Letter 11 x 8
  7. A 2-page Western Union telegram and envelope sent to Mrs. Kennedy at the Rice Hotel on November 21, 1963 from Mrs. Johnny George about culture and arts in the Southwest. Good condition, slight creases. Telegram 4 1/2 x 6 1/2, Envelope 3 1/2 x 6 3/4
  8. A real estate ad on heavy gray and purple paper detailing a commercial rental in the Judicial Building in Washington, D.C. The verso has writing in blue pen in an unknown hand. Good condition. 8 1/2 x 11
  9. Light blue leather eyeglass case with gold wheat design on cover and pair of reading glasses. Glasses are light yellow plastic with dark brown accents. Good condition. Case 6 x 2 1/2
  10. Blue rubber eyeglass case and gray and yellow plastic frame eyeglasses worn by Evelyn Lincoln while Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as President on Air Force One. The prescription glasses are broken in half at the bridge piece. Fair condition. Case 6 1/4 x 3 1/4

The purse also contains various loose hairpins, a receipt for $9.97, and a fabric cloth for cleaning eyeglass lenses from Mayflower Optical in Washington.
