Lot 210A
Stein & Goldstein Carousel Horse
American, Coney Island Style.
c.1910. This outer row jumper is, by any standard, a carousel treasure. Remarkably, it has remained in magnificent condition in what is strongly believed to be its original studio paint applied by Stein & Goldstein a century ago. It has remained in the home of its current owner for nearly half a century. That owner had a chance meeting with noted carousel author and authority Charlotte Dinger in early 1980's at which time Ms. Dinger was shown photographs of the figure. Her comments support the notion that with double eagle cantle, fish scale blanket and remarkable surface, this wonderful horse has all the ingredients one looks for in a thrilling carousel carving.
