Guernsey’s will take collectors back in time for the chance to own some of history’s greatest treasures at the historic TriBeCa offices of Urban Archaeology. The auction will feature approximately one thousand architectural artifacts discovered by UA over the decades.
For more than forty years, Urban Archaeology has been at the vanguard of saving historic architectural elements from destruction. It has been the organization of choice by leading architects, designers, corporate buyers, and sophisticated home owners who have envisioned the inclusion of dramatically handsome, patinated, vintage objects in their noteworthy projects. Many have visited the firm’s building in the heart of NYC’s landmarked Franklin Street where the display of treasured items resembles more a museum than a showroom. With additional offices in Bridgehampton, Boston, and Chicago, Urban Archaeology has been the go-to source for everything from monumental outdoor statuary to extraordinary wrought-iron estate gates to remarkable, often unique creations of every description in assorted metals, stone, ceramics, glass, and wood.
A review of the Auction Catalogue reveals such revered names as Edgar Brandt, Samuel Yellin and Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann. Exciting objects from prominent institutions including The Plaza and St. Regis Hotels and the Yale University Library are featured along with items from such stunning settings as Paris’ magnificent Place de la Concorde and iconic Le Bon Marché. Simply put, imagine bidding on the original statuesque Mermaid and Merman figures from the Place de la Concorde’s breathtaking fountain or the awe-inspiring Baptistery Gates from Fifth Avenue’s famed St. Patrick’s Cathedral... fantastique! (Note: there will be many, many far smaller items suited to just about any space.)
A beautiful collectors’ catalogue showcases the many items with detailed photographs and descriptions. It will be available for $22 in person; $32 shipped domestically or $50 shipped internationally.
