The highlights of this auction are two legendary guitars - the original prototype of the revolutionary Les Paul Gibson guitar, the instrument that made Rock and Roll possible and often spoken of as “the holy grail,” and Chet Atkin’s prototype Gretsch guitar.
A two-day auction offering dramatic antique architectural artifacts assembled over four decades by Urban Archaeology and its owner, Gil Shapiro. Among the hundreds of important items to be offered are the fabled gates from NYC’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral and elegant figures that once graced the Place de Concorde in Paris.
Seymour Stein, founder of Sire Records, member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and manager of such pop-cultural icons as Madonna, the Talking Heads and the Ramones, has also, for the last fifty years, been the inveterate collector. The auction will feature Stein’s collections of original art, vintage posters, rare advertising, ceramics and a wide assortment of other forms of collectibles.
The fabled Dr. Hans Sachs Poster Collection is universally described as being the most significant collection of its type in existence. Assembled by a German Jewish dentist and confiscated by the Nazi’s in 1938, the Collection was returned to the Sachs Family following an eight year battle in the German Courts.
